About Tri-City
Lumber Co.

Your Trusted partner for quality building materials and expert advice since 1978.

The Foundation

Rooted in Excellence and Local Heritage

Tri-City Lumber Co. has been a cornerstone of the community since its founding in 1978. What began as a small, family-run operation has grown into a trusted supplier of high-quality building materials for contractors and homeowners across the region.

Founded by Keith and Betty in 1990—when this stretch of Clearwater Avenue was still dirt and tumbleweeds—they believed in the future of the Tri-Cities long before its growth began. Their vision was simple: provide honest service, reliable materials, and personal guidance you won’t find at big-box stores.

In early 2025, ownership passed to Benjamin Sullenger, who proudly continues this 30+ year legacy. Under his leadership, Tri-City Lumber remains committed to the same values, relationships, and standards that built its reputation—while preparing for the future of building in our community

The Doug-Approved Stamp

Meet Doug: Our Resident Expert

“I won’t sell you anything I wouldn’t use on my own home. If it’s on our yard, it’s Doug- Approved.”

Doug has been with Tri-City for 30 years. He leads our procurement and quality control team. His ‘Doug-Approved’ philosophy means every piece of lumber is hand-inspected for straightness, moisture content, and structural integrity before it ever leaves our yard.

Whether you’re a professional contractor or trying your hand at a DIY project, our team provides personalized, one-on-one support to make sure you get exactly what you need, every time.

Jeff Maynard

He loves working with contractors on their projects, big or small.

Alex Palmer

Ben Sullenger

CEO

The owner of Tri-City Lumber and a proud Kennewick native. Before purchasing the company, Ben worked at Tri-City Lumber, so he knows the business and the people inside and out. With nearly 20 years in the fire service prior to taking over at Tri-City Lumber, Ben brings a strong commitment to helping others, serving the community, and doing right by the people he works with. He’s passionate about supporting local homeowners, contractors, and other small businesses, ensuring Tri-City Lumber is a place the community can count on. When he’s not at the yard, you’ll usually find him spending time with his four kids or with Doug, his dog and unofficial sidekick.

Doug

Doug is Tri-City Lumber’s four-legged greeter, part-time therapist, and full-time morale booster. Walk through the door and you’ll probably get invited to a quick game of fetch—Doug plays ball with anyone. Between customer “consults” (ear scratches) and serious naps, he keeps an eye on the yard and the forklift action (and may or may not try to race them). He’s also invested every last bone into Tri-City Lumber stock—very bullish on building season.

Building Community Together

“I’ve been a general contractor for 20 years. I stopped going to the big box stores the day I walked into Tri- City. Their lumber is straighter, their staff is smarter, and they never miss a delivery window.”

Mike T.

Master Contractor

“As a first-time DIYer, I was intimidated. Doug spent 20 minutes helping me pick the right cedar for my deck. You just don’t get that level of care anywhere else these days.”
